NEW YORK — The Unrivaled League MVP was awarded to Las Vegas Aces star guard Chelsea Gray on Monday, a testament to her exceptional skills and impact on the 3-on-3 basketball league.
Gray, a standout player for Rose BC, received the honor before the semifinal games at the sold-out Barclays Center. Her dedication to excellence was evident in her words: "I love this game and want to be great every night. Women's basketball is thriving, and it's incredible to see so many fans cheering us on."
Gray's performance this season was nothing short of remarkable. She averaged an impressive 24.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.1 assists, breaking her own single-season assists record with an astonishing 85 in just 14 games. Her consistency was evident with nine games of 20 or more points and 10 games with five or more assists. Additionally, she tied the league's single-game 3-pointers record with an incredible 10 makes.
Another former Aces star, Kelsey Plum of the Los Angeles Sparks, led her team to the championship. Plum scored 31 points, guiding the No. 1-seeded Phantom BC to an 83-75 victory over Vinyl. Dearica Hamby, also a former Aces player and a Sparks teammate, was the top scorer for Vinyl with 30 points.
In the other semifinal, Arike Ogunbowale, celebrating her 29th birthday, hit a crucial 3-pointer to secure a 73-69 win for the second-seeded Mist over Breeze. The championship game, set for Wednesday in Miami, promises an exciting showdown with a $600,000 prize pool up for grabs.
Unrivaled's success in New York, drawing over 21,490 fans for a weekend of basketball, further solidified the league's popularity. The star-studded crowd included basketball legends like Carmelo Anthony and Sue Bird, as well as actors Ashton Kutcher and Jason Sudeikis, and the gold medal-winning U.S. hockey player Hilary Knight, showcasing the league's ability to captivate diverse audiences.
