In Norfolk, the speed camera on the A134 Bury Road at Thetford once again topped the list of speed cameras that caught the most drivers in 2025, but with a significantly lower number compared to the previous year. This raises the question: Are speed cameras becoming less effective?
The camera caught 2,969 drivers in 2025, down from 4,176 in 2024. But here's where it gets controversial... Some argue that the decrease in numbers could be due to drivers becoming more cautious, while others suggest that the camera's location or visibility might be a factor. And this is the part most people miss... The A10 at West Winch came in second, with 1,929 drivers caught, and the A140 Mile End Road in Norwich captured 1,509 offences.
Terry Jermy, MP for South West Norfolk, expressed his satisfaction with the reduction in offences, but also emphasized the need for more proactive measures. He highlighted the importance of adequate signage, asking: 'I would encourage Norfolk County Council to ensure more adequate signage is installed to help further reduce these concerning numbers.'
The Norfolk Constabulary's Safety Camera Team regularly patrols various sites to promote safer driving. But what do you think? Are speed cameras an effective deterrent, or should we explore alternative methods to reduce speeding incidents? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.
